It Pays to Read the Labels


Guess where you can get some of the best recipes?  No.  Not from Grandma or Mommy.  Well, I guess they do have some of the best recipes; at least yours do.  My mother does not like to cook.  I hardly remember my grandmother’s cooking, but I do remember some of the things she liked and talked about.


What I am talking about is the labels.  Some of the best recipes are found on product labels.  So it does really pay to read the labels.  This recipe is from the mustard label.  Maille, whole grain Dijon mustard label.  This would also be great with pork chops.

Dijon Mustard Glazed Grilled Veal Chops


  • 4 veal rib or loin chops, cut 1-inch thick (about 8 ounces each)
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 5 tablespoons Dijon mustard divided (I use the whole grain type)
  • 3 tablespoons fresh chopped herbs; such as basil, chives, parsley, and sage; divided
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • salt


Press pepper evenly on both sides of the veal chops.  Place chops on a grid over medium, ash-covered coals.  Grill, uncovered, 12 to 14 minues for medium , turning occasionally.  Prepare a mixture of 3 tablespoons mustard mixed with 1 tablespoon herbs and brush the chops after each turn, until chops are coated.

Meanwhile, combine sour cream, remaining 2 tablespoons mustard, remaining 1 tablespoon herbs and water in a small bowl.  Set aside.

Season chops with salt, as desired.  Serve with mustard mixture.




Serves 4.
