Swiss Torta


6 cups dry bread, cubed (French or other)
3 cups milk
3 eggs
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 tablespoons butter, melted
2 tablespoons cocoa powder
1 pinch salt
1 cup raisins
1/2 cup citron
1/4 cup pine nuts
1 teaspoon grated lemon rind


In a large pot, warm the milk.  Add the sugar, salt, and bread, stirring to dissolve the sugar.  Once the mixture cools down a bit, add slightly beaten eggs, melted butter, cocoa, lemon rind. raisins, and citron.  Mix thoroughly.

Pour the mixture into an 8 x 8-inch greased baking dish.  Bake at 325 for 1 1/2 hours.  Once cooled, sprinkle with red or green sprinkles for decoration, if desired.
